Inspiring People

Erin Brockovich

(1960)

Erin Brockovich; an American lady who had no law education, no good job and a meager amount to support herself and her 3 kids. Her life is a story of struggle and determination and this is why I chose Erin to be included in the list of "Inspiring people".

Reason for inspiration:

Erin was hired as a file manager in a law firm whereby she discovered about Chromium contamination of underground water in Hinkley. Chromium 6 is carcinogenic (cancer causing) metal an she suspected that constant contamination of water by Chromium could be responsible for many of the diseases, disorders and cancers people of Hinkley were having. With no knowledge about medicine and law, she set out to find every possible evidence that could be found about water contamination with Chromium 6 and it's link with causing various health related problems.

The law firm where Erin was working filed a case in U.S. court against Pacific Gas and Electricity (the company alleged to contaminate underground water by Chromium 6). The case was won by Erin and her firm claiming 333 Million U.S. dollars. This is the largest amount ever paid in any lawsuit in U.S. history.

Based on her life and her struggle, a Hollywood movie with similar name "Erin Brockovich" was made in 2000 starring Julia Roberts as Erin Brockovich. The movie got Julia Roberts oscar for best actress.

Her story reflects that our conditions and hardships in life are actually leading us towards something better and that the only thing which keeps people successful and move ahead of others is their determination and will to struggle and never give up. Imagine how a lady having no law education can contribute towards winning a historical case!!

Never give up.
