Difference Between Turtle and Tortoise
One of the confusions I ever had in my life was to find the differences between similar things and one of them has always been the difference between a turtle and tortoise? Everytime someone mentioned a turtle, I wondered if I had pictures of a turtle and a tortoise how could I know who is who and what is what?
So the purpose of this page is to discuss some of the important characteristic differences between turtles and tortoises.
Turtles live in water and have webbed feet while Tortoise lives on land and would enter water only to drink or wash itself.
Shell shape and weight:
A tortoise has a doomed shaped shell while turtles have more flattened shell. Also the weight of the shell of tortoise is heavier compared to turtle.
The turtle limbs are webbed and have long feet while a tortoise has short feet and bent limbs.
Turtles eat both plants and insects while tortoise only eats plant.
Tortoises found mostly in Asia and America while Turtles are commonly found in America. Turtles like to migrate from one area to another while Tortoise stays in one area.
Tortoise have long lives ranging from 80 years to 150 years while Turtles usually live 20-40 years.
