Caring For The Eyes
While we may not we deliberately practicing habits that can be detrimental for the health of the eyes; we may unconsciously be playing the role in hurting our eyes. This page will put forward some simple tips that you can use to improve eye care.
1. Check with your food:
Increase intake of green, leafy vegetables, Salmon fish, Spinach, eggs and garlic. Vitamin A helps in improving vision.
2. Do not strain eyes:
Eyes are muscles and like any muscles, they can get fatigued. Do not excessively strain your eyes by not sleeping properly, reading continuously or watching T.V. and computers without breaks or not doing enough exercises. Make a habit to take breaks after every 15 minutes. For example if you are reading a book, after every 15 minutes, stop reading and turn your head to right and left and focus on something distant.
Similarly do not sit against the computer or T.V. in a dark or poorly illuminated room, try to have proper light in background so that your eye muscles do not have to work excessively hard to focus.
Often music videos or T.V. programs have rapid graphics that keep changing colors very rapidly and continue making transitions from dark to light, do not watch such graphics. It is better to change channel till such visuals are over.
You should clean your eyes every time you return your home from workplace or market. For this, you should first wash your palms first, then by having small amount of water in palm, you can wash wash the area of the skin around the eye while trying to open eyes slowly so that water cleans the dirt particles around and inside the exposed surface of eyes.
4. Eye exercises:
As mentioned, one of the useful eye exercise is to focus on something distant every 15 minutes for a at least a minute.
Look up at the roof and then down to the ground, this improves the blood flow in neck which in turn increases circulation to the eyes.
Rub your hands together until warm and then place each hand over eyes, covering both the eyes with both hands while leaving the nose uncovered. Keep both the eyes covered with hands for at least 15 minutes a day.
5. Poor quality sunglasses:
Though sunglasses will protect your eyes from damaging or excessive sunlight and associated glare, if you wear poor quality sunglasses, that will be more detrimental to your eyesight.
Once a year, it is good to have an eye check up by a doctor.
